Is boom time is over for the shipping lines? With spot rates continuing to tumble 40’ rates have fallen back below the $7000 mark. There are market whispers of rates being available at closer to $6000, however that’s more likely aggressive forwarders taking a view the market will drop before they need to ship your box. Do not be surprised to see a ‘rolling’ at this rate level.

With demand being absent from peak demand season, the glory days appear to be on their way back to normality for shipping lines according to Splash 247. Backing this up is the next article from The Loadstar who highlight the following from Container xChange.
The leasing platform said average container prices from China had halved, compared with August last year, despite the industry heading into peak season. Furthermore, there was a 17% decline in one-way leasing pick-up rates of containers from China to the US between June and July.
